Windows into the World
France

When I am photographing a subject, I don’t let the camera limit what I can capture. Sometimes a scene encompasses such a wide field of view that it isn’t possible to capture it in one shot and maintain the level of detail necessary for large prints. To solve this, I created a custom tripod head that allows me to take multiple images of a scene and assemble them together like a mosaic.

In addition, the dynamic range of light from highlights to shadows can be greater than what the camera can capture, so I will take multiple exposures of each part of the mosaic. Blending the various exposures allows me to make an image that more closely matches what the human eye can see.

Now, instead of technology limiting what I can capture, it opens up new possibilities for capturing wide ranges of view and dramatic lighting.

I hope you enjoy looking through these Windows into the World as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
